Simpler Way of Living
In the pursuit of creating a space that feels truly cozy, intimate, and beautifully uncomplicated, our 1,000-square-foot cottage rose to the challenge. Thoughtfully designed to embrace the idea that less really can be more, the cottage comfortably accommodates up to six guests, inviting you to slow down, settle in, and stay awhile.
The main living room centers around the home’s original brick fireplace—a perfect place to curl up, gather together, and enjoy the simple pleasure of being somewhere without a hurry. A wood staircase with the sweetest hand painted mural leads upstairs and may feel a little steep for some guests. For those who prefer an easier route, there is also an exterior staircase that leads to the same upstairs area through a charming Dutch door.
Throughout the cottage, we’ve intentionally created a feeling of stepping back into a simpler time. You’ll find pieces with history, textures that feel warm and familiar, and details chosen not to feel perfect or overly polished, but rather collected, comfortable, and lived-in.
The kitchen is truly the heart of the cottage. It features the home’s original antique stove, ready to be put to work preparing everything from a morning breakfast to a cozy dinner. A terracotta-colored stone sink sits beneath handmade European-style pillar taps, with separate hot and cold water fixtures. There’s also a retro refrigerator, hand-built cabinetry crafted by my husband, antique hutches, and a tucked-away laundry room. A more extended look into our kitchen, La Cuisine, can be found here.
At the center of it all is our vintage dining table and chairs—a place to gather over a long breakfast, share a meal, play a game, or linger over a glass of wine long after dinner is finished.
The cottage has one full bathroom on the main floor, complete with a charming clawfoot tub, an antique stone sink, and European-style pillar taps. Upstairs, we have what we affectionately call the Cloakroom—a small sink area with an old stone basin and a tiny separate toilet room.
And lastly, the cottage offers three cozy bedrooms, each thoughtfully appointed to make settling in at the end of the day feel just as inviting as waking up in the morning.
