Undoubtedly taking long walks along the neighboring streets of the Palisades and admiring all the beautiful vintage homes is one of my favorite pastimes here.

We are lucky enough to be situated within a 3 minute walking distance of the trail/lake gate that leads you to the water. We have left some turkish towels and beach chairs if you wish to use while spending some time there.

~Directions to Walk to the Trail:

(You can also find the trail on Google Maps)

From the house walk on sunset and make a right and you will come to a spot where four roads meet.

TRAIL 8: Take John Muir Road (on your left) down. As you walk down John Muir, Access Trail 8 will be on your right, there is a green metal door and you can go ahead and tap your pass for access. You will see a flight of cement stairs (and railing) leading down to the lake (note this trail is between two houses). It is a bit of a work out and a great way to get your steps in for the day! At the bottom of the steps go left and you will be heading to the Village. On this route, you will come to “Beach 356,” it’s a small sandy beach, if you look at the dock numbers, this beach is between 356 - 354.

On your way to the village, you will see more access trails to the neighborhood.  It’s a nice walk to go up Trail 9, or 10 into the Palisades Neighborhood as well that will lead you back to cottage if you make a left when you arrive to the street.

Just past trail 10 is Orchard Bay. Here there are picnic tables and bathrooms. The sand at the shoreline is not as nice as the other beaches but there is definitely more room to spread out, and it’s nice to have the bathrooms and picnic tables.

From Orchard Bay, you can keep walking to the Village. There is a small portion where you walk along the road, but mostly it’s a nice trail, away from the main road.

TRAIL 7: When you’re at the spot where four roads meet, take the sharp left down Palisades Drive. Walk about 10 minutes and look for Trail 7 Access on your left. It has a gate to open, use the pass to open.  Travel down the steps and go right. It’s a short walk (maybe 50 steps) to “Bob’s Beach” look on your left for the trail/stairs that lead down to the beach, they are a bit hidden by the bushes.

You can also reach this beach from Trail 8, just go right at the bottom of the trail and walk toward Trail 7

Beach Options:

Bob’s Beach (Walk to Trail 7) - Nice sandy beach, no bathrooms.

Beach 356 (Walk to Trail 8) - Small sandy beach, no bathrooms, shorter walk.

Orchard Bay (Walk to Trail 8) - Larger beach, picnic tables, bathrooms. Continue walking beyond Orchard Bay to reach the Village.

If you feel like taking a little drive, head over to Burnt Mill Beach Club. Although the beach club itself is private, a charming little trail runs just beyond the gate near the parking area. It winds through the woods alongside a quiet, glassy creek. One of our favorite places to wander, slow down, and find a peaceful spot by the water to sit for a while.
